The Sower: April 2020

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” – Romans 12:2

Left! Left! Left! sounds simple, but, to a mind that has been trained “Right! Right! Right!” for 60 years, it’s not so simple. Not adhering to the new instruction is potentially tragic! In the U.S., we drive on the right side of the road. Our numerous round-a–bouts are counterclockwise. We look to the left to make a right-hand turn. We pull into a parking lot on the right-hand side and on and on. Right, right, right is so ingrained in our minds that the result is mindless actions. Then, all of a sudden, you are in another country and told it is left, left, left. Not a problem, right? Sounds simple – it’s just the opposite. Not! Just ask my wife how I did. Just ask the local who had to slam on his breaks because some out-of-towner (me) pulled out in front of him…ugh.

For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:5-6

The world exerts tremendous pressure on each of us, such that our minds will be set on the flesh and things of the flesh. We must fight to listen, embrace, and adhere to the new instruction – the Truth – and set our minds on the Spirit, which will bring life everlasting and true peace.
