The Sower: June 2018

This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. – 1 John 1:5-7

My last two offices at work have both had light motion detectors. You walk in and the light turns on, and as long as it detects you or something moving, it stays on. If no movement is detected, the light goes off. In the first office, the light sensor was partially hidden behind a post. I would be sitting at my desk working away and my light would go off. Once I figured out what the problem was, I would lean back in my chair and wave my arms so there would be light again.

The same thing happens in my current office. It’s funny when people walk by and see the light go off with me in the office. They get a good laugh when I, without hesitation, lean back, wave my arms, and never miss a beat with my work. I heard Dr. Tony Evans use the light sensor/motion detector as a spiritual illustration, and it’s powerful.

We must be constantly striving to grow in our relationship with Christ. When we are praying, reading God’s Word, and following in obedience and serving – The Light is on and radiates from our words, actions, and deeds. Conversely, the darkness is quick to invade and attempt to take over when we are not daily or consistently engaged, spiritually. So, get moving and keep moving. Make sure the sensor detects the motion so that The Light always shines!
