“Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday.” Psalm 37:5-6

Com.mit.ment: a) an agreement or pledge to do something in the future, b) something pledged, c) the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled.

The idea of commitment rewards is not a new concept. For farmers, rewards are given when commitments are made to purchase certain quantities of seed. In the restaurant industry, rewards are given when a restaurant owner commits to buying a certain amount of product from a food service company. A promise is made to do something, rewards are received, and action is required on the part of both parties in the transaction.

Spiritually, things are no different. Through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, God accomplished all the work for us so that we can have the opportunity to be saved from spending eternity in hell. But there is action required on our part. We must accept Jesus as Savior and Lord and commit our way to the Lord. Then, “…He will do it.” Do what? “He will bring forth your righteousness as the light and your judgment as the noonday.”

Today, we are all about the “getting” and then quickly forget about fulfilling our end of the deal. In his book, “Not a Fan,” Kyle Idleman says you will find that Jesus says “Believe in me” about five times and “Follow me” about twenty times in the four Gospels. He writes, “…to be a Christian… there is no forgiveness without repentance. There is no salvation without surrender. There is no life without death. There is no believing without committing.” God has taken care of His part — the eternal rewards. Have we fulfilled our commitment?
